Earthworm Digestive System
The Earthworm is a passive animal that only eats dead grass and leaves. Having no teeth, it uses soil to grind up its food. This ground up mixture of soil and grass is then passed through the pharynx where it is coated by mucus and saliva. Next it is stored in the crop where it gets churned up and mixed into a thick solution of grass, soil, and fluids. After that, it is transported through the gizzard into the intestines. Here it gets stripped of its nutrients and eventually makes its way down the excretory tubes and exits through the anus.
