Black Ball Sponge Digestive System
These large and harmless organisms range from a size of about 20 cm high, to 23 cm long. Just like other sponges, it needs to eat small food particles that float around in the ocean. It has special cells around its body that captures, absorbs, and releases any excess substances that it captures during the process.
In order to eat, the black ball sponge must follow a these simple sets:
- Water gets pushed into the the sponges pores and through a series of chambers called flagellated chambers.
- Color cells capture food particles that touch the chamber walls and are digested by amoeba like cells.
- Excess water pushed is pushed out by the osculum, a large opening in the sponges body
